Sober October — Day 1

It’s time for Sober October round 2! Last year was my very first time participating in 31 days of no alcohol, and it was so successful I decided my body would once again enjoy the detox.

Let’s be honest…this pandemic has taken its toll on all of us. Some wonderful things occurred since March, for sure, but my alcohol consumption skyrocketed! I’m a wine educator and a professional musician, so with no wine tastings or gigs to be had anywhere, there I was stuck at home with nothing but a dissolving marriage and the occasional Zoom date with friends. I finished a bottle of wine almost every night on the regular.

Friends on Cape Cod rescued me when I visited, hosting nightly “Beach Beers” in the late afternoons. Those times were vital for my sanity, and those who attended were some of the only people I socialized with. But…we also sometimes drank a LOT.

So here I am, October 1st, embracing the teetotaling lifestyle for 31 days. This time I have a few friends along for the ride, and I’m happy to have and be the encouragement.

Since this isn’t my first go-round, I made sure to be prepared with some non-alcoholic cocktail mixers. I made a Ritual gin alternative and tonic just now, and IT IS GOOD!!! Cocktail hour is saved!

Thank you for tuning into my journal here on Medium. You can read all about my adventures with Sober October last year as well. Cheers!
